If you were to ask me what sessions I have the most fun setting up and shooting, hands down it would be Cake Smashes! A first birthday is a huge milestone in a baby's life (And yours - you survived the first year!!) Celebrating with a cake smash photoshoot is a great way to make sure you have lasting memories this fleeting time!
Cake smash session include a complimentary 1 year pre-cake portrait session. After the portraits comes the mess! I save the cake smash for the second half of the session and there is always laughter and sometimes tears. I have started offering “bath” sessions at the end of the cake smash. These are a great natural progression from the cake smash and always make for amazing pictures. You can choose a “splash session” in place of one of your pre-cake portrait set ups.
15-20 minutes are allotted for the Pre-cake portraits and 30-45 minutes for the cake smash portion. However, I like to let the little ones set the pace and we will go however long (or short) we need to to capture amazing images.
As you can see with my previous work no detail is over looked and the sets can be quite extensive depending on the theme, but I am here to help you guide you through design ideas and choices. Prior to the session I consult with the client on a theme, color scheme and clothing options! If there are no known allergies, the cake is provided as well as all of the decorations for your cake smash. The cake is made by a fantastic local baker, Dessert First, and we work together closely to match the cake perfectly to your theme and colors. I have a large wardrobe of cake smash outfits you can choose to utilize or you may choose to bring your own.
After your session, we will schedule a reveal session for you to see your images and choose your digital/print collection within 1-2 weeks. Because of this, I suggest if you want to have images by a certain date (i.e. birthday party) we schedule your session accordingly. Contrary to popular believe, these sessions do not have to be scheduled the day your baby turns one year old. I've had cake smashers anywhere from 10 months to 15 months in age.
